AHMEDABAD: The rain in Ahmedabad was pleasant till Friday, with air conditioners being switched off and fan speeds being reduced, but as citizens awoke on Saturday morning, the heavy rain particularly between 3am and 5am wreaked havoc.
According to data from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) control room, the city received 128mm of rain from 4pm on Friday to 4pm on Saturday.
There was a heavy downpour between 3am and 5am, when most of the day’s rain fell.
The AMC received 47 complaints of waterlogging and vehicular traffic was significantly hindered.

“The waterlogging near Jay Mangal BRTS was terrible at around 8am on Saturday. Instead of covering the entire road width, vehicles were moving in single file, just beside the BRTS railing, where the water was a little less deep. It took a lot of time to get to the IIM junction,” said Bhargav Shah, a city-based professional.
Underpasses were also waterlogged. The AMC said four underpasses — Usmanpura, Parimal, Shahibaug and Akhbarnagar — had to be closed. Extra pumps were set up to clear water from these. They were open for traffic by 9am. Three incidents of road subsidence were also reported in the city.
