AHMEDABAD: A 22-year-old woman filed an FIR against her husband for giving her a ‘triple talaq’ in the Shahpur area of the city on Wednesday. The woman alleged that her husband broke off the marriage because she gave birth to a girl child.
According to the FIR lodged with Shahpur police station, the complainant – Afananbanu Shaikh married Mohammed Ashfaq Pinjara two years ago at Delhi Chakla in the city and the couple had a daughter, who is now 18 months old.

“On Tuesday night, my husband started fighting with me over a domestic issue and started abusing me. Then, he started beating me. When my in-laws came to rescue me, he pushed them out of the house.
He then started cursing me and said that he does not want me any more and said ‘Talaq’ thrice,” Afananbanu stated in her FIR.
She alleged that her husband treated her well initially but after the birth of their daughter, he started cursing her every day as he did not want a girl child.
Afananbanu later called her uncle and aunt who tried to counsel Ashfaq but he abused them and refused to accept her.
Afananbanu then called the women’s helpline and first approached the women’s cell of city police, from where she was sent to Shahpur police station to file an FIR.
Police booked Pinjara under IPC sections 323 for causing hurt and 294 for uttering obscene words.
