AHMEDABAD: In a gory incident, a woman was allegedly strangled and then dumped into a water tank in the backyard of their house by her husband and in-laws. The incident had taken place on February 14, which is celebrated as Valentine’s Day. Her husband Niesh Kher of Krishnanagar and her in-laws had denied knowledge of her whereabouts and complained to police that she had gone missing.

According to police sources it was on Saturday that a neighbour saw the dead body in the water tank located in the backyard of the house.
Police sources said Jayshree Kher was married to Nilesh Kher about seven months ago. “However, soon after her marriage she told her parents that she was being harassed by her husband and in-laws for dowry and is being subjected to mental and physical torture,” said a police official of Krishnanagar police station.
A senior police official said on February 14, Jayshree’s in-laws had allegedly framed a story that she had gone missing after going out in the morning.
“However, Jayshree’s parents did not believe the story and approached the cops. They tried to find her but could not. It was on Saturday that a woman staying in the neighbourhood of the Kher family opened the lid of the underground tank and found the dead body floating in it.
“The body was in a decomposed state. We have identified the body based on the clothes she was wearing. We have registered a case under sections of murder, destruction of evidence, domestic violence and dowry demand against Jayshree’s husband and four other accused,” said a senior police official of Krishnanagar police station.
Police officials said they are tracing the accused and will nab them soon. “We have sent the body for postmortem and are awaiting the report,” said a police official.
