AHMEDABAD: Thieves decamped with gold and diamond ornaments along with cash, all worth Rs 8.73 lakh, from a businessman’s residence in Satellite when the family was on vacation in Singapore. Police have started investigation with help of forensic team.
Acoording to investigators, Ashish Shah, 45, a resident of Palatial Bungalows near Star Bazaar in Satellite, owns a textile business in Madhavpura market. He along with his wife and children had started off for Singapore on October 21.
They had given the keys to the bungalow to the neighbour living opposite and had also informed the domestic help who was also going to his native in Rajasthan.
“When they were coming back on November 1, Shah informed Mahesh Rabari, who used to come to clean and maintain the vehicles, to go to his residence and clean the windows as well after taking the key from the neighbour. When Rabari opened the bungalow, he realized that the house was burgled as the cupboards were broken and the belongings were rummaged through. He informed Shah about the same,” said an official.
When the family reached at 3pm, they took stock of the valuables and got to know that the thieves had decamped with a gold ornament set, gold and diamond ornaments, a set with precious stones along with gold and silver coins, a wrist watch and Rs 50,000 cash all worth Rs 8.73 lakh.
Shah reported that the thieves entered the house after cutting iron grill on the window of a bedroom on first floor.
This Diwali, the city police have reported over a dozen house break-ins from western parts of the city when the families were out.
