AMARAVATI: In a major push to development in urban areas, the state cabinet has decided to regularise illegal and unauthorised layouts with certain conditions. The decision may help spur growth in towns and cities in the state.
The cabinet which met here under the chairmanship of chief minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy decided to provide relief to commoners by regularising unauthorised layouts by collecting charges.

"Realtors sold plots in unauthorised layouts to middle-class and lower-middle class people who migrated to towns and cities in big numbers in the last two decades. While people were unable to get loans as the layouts were illegal, civic bodies failed to develop infrastructure close to such layouts due to existing rules. Regularisation is a solution to decongest cities and towns," said transport minister Perni Nani.
He said people would get loans from banks once the plots were regularised. He said this would spur development in the peripheral areas of towns and cities.
