BATHINDA: Punjab health minister Brahm Mohindra’s son Mohit on Thursday applied for Congress ticket for
Bathinda parliamentary constituency. Union minister
Harsimrat Kaur Badal is the sitting MP from Bathinda.
Mohit Mohindra is 28-year-old and law graduate from the Punjabi University. He is the Punjab Youth Congress state general secretary and the wing in charge of Bathinda parliamentary constituency.
Brahm Mohindra is MLA from Patiala Rural constituency.
So far, former deputy speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha Jaswant Singh and Congress activist Raj Singh Nambardar have already applied for Congress ticket from Bathinda constituency.
After applying for the ticket, Mohit said, “If given the opportunity, I am eager to take on Union food processing industry minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who is expected to seek re-election from Bathinda. I have the pulse of the Bathinda parliamentary constituency for being the in charge of this area for the Youth Congress.”
He said that since Congress president Rahul Gandhi and Punjab Congress wanted more youth to come forward, he felt that he would be a strong contender for the ticket. Mohit also claimed that even though he belonged to Patiala, he had been concentrating more on Bathinda to discharge his duty as Youth Congress general secretary.
Sources said that the party wanted that Punjab finance minister Manpreet Singh Badal to contest parliamentary polls from Bathinda against his estranged sister-in-law. Manpreet has publicly said that would fight if the party asked him to.
Harsimrat had defeated Manpreet by 19,395 votes in Bathinda during the 2014 parliamentary elections.
