AURANGABAD: Three suspects, including a couple, have been booked by the city police on the charges of duping a Hyderabad-based transporter on the pretext of providing 75 per cent shares in a firm. The transporter fell prey to the trap and ended up being cheated of Rs 65 lakhs.
Based on a complaint lodged by him, Kranti chowk police have registered a case of cheating, forgery of valuable documents, forgery for cheating, criminal breach of trust, and criminal conspiracy.

Police said that the suspects made an investment deal with the victim and promised him of lucrative returns on the investment made in a firm floated by them. The entire transaction was carried out between May 2013 and 2015.
According to the complaint lodged by transporter Manish Chaudhari (48) a resident of Domalgunda of Hyderabad, he met the suspects through a common friend. However, he had only spoken to them over the phone. After several rounds of telephonic conversations, they first met in 2012 at a travel company’s office situated opposite district and sessions court of Aurangabad.
The deal to get 75 percent share of the suspect-owned firm was finalized and soon Chaudhari transferred the money to the suspects’ accounts in multiple instalments.
Initially, the key suspect informed the investor that once he makes the payment, the shares would be transferred in the name of his wife and after completing the official procedure with different government departments, the shares would be finally transferred to Chaudhari’s name.

Over a period of time, Chaudhari realised that he was neither a partner in the company and nor there is any registration of partnership deal in the office concerned. The cheating came to surface after Chaudhari was summoned by the Economic Offences Wing of the city police for recording his statement in a complaint where one of the suspects had lodged a cheating complaint against the couple.
On realizing that he was duped, the victim reached out to the Kranti chowk police and lodged a complaint against his common friend and the suspect couple, following which an offence was registered on Sunday.
