Dosa batter lands in Sheelavantha Lake, food firm apologises
Residents came across gunny bags with food waste on the lake’s banks on Sunday.
BENGALURU: Residents who had gone for a stroll near Sheelavantha Lake, off Ramangondanhalli Borewell Road, near Whitefield, on Sunday were shocked to find food batter oozing out of large sacks piled up on its banks.
A closer look at the gunny bags revealed that they were from iD Fresh Foods and contained dosa-idli batter and ready-to-cook parathas made by the food firm.
Spread over 19 acres and 32 guntas, the Sheelavantha Lake is home to a rich aquatic life, including fish, frogs and toads among others.

“We saw around six to seven gunny bags, from which thick white liquid were flowing out into the lake,” said Natasha G (name changed), a resident.
A lake guard said for the past two weeks, auto-tippers were dumping food waste into the water body. “When I requested them to stop throwing garbage into the lakes, they would threaten and beat me up,” he added.
The angry residents immediately took to social media to highlight the issue and demanded that Musthafa PC, the CEO of iD Fresh Foods, to look into the issue.
Musthafa later told TOI that he was unaware of the dumping issue and once he came to know of it, he immediately took strict action against the contractors concerned. “I apologise to the residents..,” said Musthafa.
