BENGALURU: A day after social media fury over his beef tweet from Goa, historian Ramachandra Guha, who is now at his residence in Bengaluru, said that he had been receiving threat messages and calls over his phone. The local police have provided security after he brought the issue into the notice of deputy commissioner of police (central) Devaraj.
Ramachandra Guha on Friday tweeted, "After a magical morning in Old Goa we had lunch in Panaji, where—since this is a BJP ruled state—I decided to eat beef in celebration."
However, it drew criticism from twitteratis over his bad taste and also raised questions about his vegetarianism.
Guha also deleted the post and wrote “I have deleted the photo of my lunch in Goa as it was in poor taste. I do wish, however, to again highlight the absolute hypocrisy of the BJP in the matter of beef, and to reiterate my own belief that humans must have the right to eat, dress, and fall in love as they choose.”

By then, the tweet had gone viral and Guha said that he was getting threatening tweets, calls and messages.
"I have received threatening calls from a man calling himself Sanjay from Delhi. His number is +91-98351-38678. He threatened my wife as well as me. This is for the record," tweeted Guha.

He spoke to TOI and said that he had informed the police officials after he started receiving threat messages and calls. Halasoor police said they had deployed two cops outside his residence located on Brunton Road.
