Karnataka private school managements meet CM, demand RTE dues

BENGALURU: A delegation of school managements met chief minister HD Kumaraswamy on Friday and put forth several demands including the pending reimbursement of RTE dues.
The members of Assisted Managements of English Medium Schools in Karnataka (KAMS) and Managements of Independent CBSE Schools Association (MICSA) told the government that over Rs 1,000 crore (2018-19) is pending for reimbursement towards imparting education to their RTE quota students.This includes Rs 600 crore towards reimbursement for last year.
“If the government does not pay up the dues at the earliest, the schools will be forced to collect the amount from the each of the students’ parents who has been admitted under RTE provisions,” said the school representatives.
Officials demand bribe: Schools
The delegation said officials in education department were demanding bribe to reimburse the funds.
The school managements also brought up the issue of delay in the supply of textbooks for unaided schools, besides raising objection to no-homework policy for class 1 and 2. “This has been opposed by many parents too and such rules affect the child’s learning process,” the managements said in their memorandum submitted to the CM.
