Bengaluru: Woman makes selfie video before committing suicide
BENGALURU: A clash between a landlord and his tenant ended in the latter committing suicide in her rental accommodation in Devanahalli town on Monday.
Minutes before taking the extreme step, Manjula, 36, shot a selfie video, in which she alleged that she was being forced to end her life due to torture by her landlord’s family.
Devanahalli police said Manjula, a resident of Manjunathanagar, hanged herself from the ceiling of her house around 3.30pm, after making the 36-second-long video.

“They harassed us a lot and even snatched my mangal sutras. I and my husband went to the police station, but were beaten up by Somashekar, his wife and daughter in front of police, who remained mute spectators. I sent my husband to hospital for treatment and now I am going to commit suicide. Soma, his wife Bindu and daughter Geetha are responsible for this. Don’t spare them...,” Manjula alleged in the video, which has gone viral on social media.
Devanahalli police said Manjula’s husband Subramani runs a beeda shop in the town. The family resided in the rental house owned by Somashekar. The owner asked them to vacate his house as he wanted to give it to someone else on lease. This led to frequent fights between Manjula and Somashekar’s family. On Sunday night, Somashekar discontinued water supply to the tenants and this led to a quarrel at midnight. Both parties approached police on Monday evening and returned after a compromise. But Bindu and Geetha again had a scrap with Manjula.
“We have registered a case of abetment to suicide against Somashekar, Bindu and Geetha based on the statement made by Manjula in the video and have arrested Somashekar,” said police.
