BHOPAL: The eighth convocation of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Bhopal was held at a private hotel in the city on Saturday. The institute also celebrated a decade of its journey in the city of lakes on the occasion. 87 students received their degrees in various courses at the convocation ceremony.
Chief electoral officer of Madhya Pradesh V L Kantha Rao was the chief guest.
He threw light on the importance of innovation in technology and advised the new graduates to work with small town weavers. He also threw light on the 19 innovation hubs of MP.
"When you have the experience of working with weavers who use traditional designs, you will learn a lot from them but at the same time you also have to teach them about new and innovative technology and designs that you have learnt here at NIFT. The two things go hand in hand. Many people know how to use technology, but do not have the innovation streak. We have to keep experimenting and learning new things to stand out of the crowd," he said.
Dressed in a saris and kurta-pajama, the students reaped the fruit of their hard-work on the occasion. They also exhibited the collection of cushion covers, ethnic and Western outfits, and jewellery designed by them as part of their internship projects with different firms.
Abhishek Raj bagged the title of 'Student of the year' while Sanskar Jain was felicitated with the 'Extraordinary Service Award'. "It has been a remarkable experience. We have presented 20 awards to students whose designs have stood out. I wish them the best and hope they will make us proud," said Sameer Sood, joint director, NIFT Bhopal.
Sunil Kumar, vice-chancellor, RGPV and Abhay Shukla, chief executive Officer, M/s Trident Limited were present as guests of honour.
