BHOPAL: The headmaster of Government Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Primary School of Bhopal is working to beautify the campus of his school by planting 100 kinds of flowering plants in the school campus. The garden will also be a source to bring school students closer to nature.
Subhash Saxena, headmaster of the school said, "I planted around 40 trees in the school last year and they are all lush green.
My students help me take care of the garden. This year however, I wanted children to learn the names of different flowers and be able to identify them. So I decided to plant 100 kinds of flowering plants in the school campus."
Awaiting the rains, Saxena has already made preparations to plant the flowering bushes by digging up a 50 meter long L-shaped flower bed and fill it with layers of fertile soil and sand, as suggested by his gardener. The headmaster will buy all the plants out of his own pocket.
"I have spoken to the caretakers of some government nurseries to keep the plants ready. As soon as the rains start, I will plant roses, lilies, champa, chameli, bela and sunflower, to name a few. I'll plant some common flowers that can survive in this climate and won't require much attention. Exotic plants are very difficult to maintain."
The plantation drive will start with the help of the school children once the schools reopen.
