Bhopal police inspector gets India’s best cyber cop award

BHOPAL: An inspector posted in cyber cell, Bhopal, has been awarded ‘best cyber cop in India’. Inspector Abhiskek Sonekar was conferred the award at a function organised at New Delhi by Data Security Council of India and Nasscom.
According to reports, all the states had sent their nominations for the event. Moreover, the state cyber cell has been awarded the ‘excellence in capacity building’ award for spreading awareness in the field of cyber crime and information security.
Inspector Sonekar was selected by a jury of three members, including DGP of Kerala, additional director general of police and a Supreme Court lawyer. The jury had finalised three cops for the final round, including two cops from Kolkata and Sonekar. Subsequently Sonekar was conferred the award.
Sonekar told TOI that it is a great achievement for him. He said that he got the award for the cyber-crime case in which unidentified fraudsters had duped two Bhopal-based industrialists to the tune of Rs 42.03 lakh on September 16.
Sonekar said that the accused blocked the SIM card of one of the partners who handled the internet banking of the firm and got a duplicate SIM card issued in his name using forged identity documents. The amount was transferred to different bank accounts in Delhi, Mumbai, Surat and Kolkata through RTGS, NEFT and IMPS in 12 transactions.
Sonekar said that state cyber cell has been awarded ‘excellence in capacity building’ for running awareness campaigns, best infrastructure and achievements in the field of controlling cyber crimes and information security.
