BHOPAL: Heavy showers greeted the state capital on Wednesday afternoon - ending the brief dry spell in Bhopal.
The weather office says that the wet spell is expected to continue in the city as well as other parts of state for at least three more days.
Officials of meteorological department Bhopal circle said, there is a low-pressure area over east Madhya Pradesh.
There is a north-south trough over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha passing through border of east Madhya Pradesh - which would have an impact over the state for the next few days.
Another system is in the offing and the state will get rains in the beginning of September as well, Met officials added.
The temperature over the last couple of days was on the higher side due to lack of rains. On Wednesday too, the day temperature remained above the normal mark at 30.5 degree Celsius. The night temperature was recorded at 23.2 degree Celsius - which was at normal mark.
Wind direction in the city was westerly and average wind speed was 20 kilometres per hour.
Places that recorded showers from 8.30am and 5.30pm included Bhopal city (14mm), Bairagarh observatory (6.2mm), Malanjkhand (35mm), Mandala (26mm), Pachmarhi (21mm),
Jabalpur (17.7mm), Shajapur (16mm) and Khajuraho (12.7mm).
In the forecast for Bhopal on Thursday the met officials said, there would be partly cloudy sky with possibility of spells of light rain. Day and night temperature would be at 32 degrees and 23 degrees Celsius, respectively while average wind speed will be 20 kmph to 25 kmph
In the forecast for state, Met department issued warning of heavy showers at places, including Rewa, Satna, Sidhi, Katni, Panna, Narsinghpur, Jabalpur, Sagar, Tikamgarh, Damoh, Chhatarpur, Mandla, Balaghat and Datia.
Overall, the state has received 15% surplus rain this year. From June 1 till Tuesday morning, MP had received 759.2mm rain as compared to the average rain for the period which is 659.6mm.
The six districts in state that have been short for rain so far are Panna and Shahdol (33% deficient), Sidhi (32%), Balaghat (26%), Katni (23%) and Chhindwara (20%).
