Coldest day in city, Sunday may be colder
MISTY MORNING: A blanket of fog enveloped Bhopal early Saturday morning
BHOPAL: Winter dipped to the nippy nines in Bhopal for the first time on Saturday, with the promise that it would slip a notch or two in the next two days. But if you want it still colder, head to Khajuraho where it was 5 degrees Celsius.
Bhopal woke up to its coldest morning on Saturday. It was windy, too, bringing on the shivers. The minimum temperature on Saturday was 9.7 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal.
The weatherman said it was the coldest day of the season. The day, too, was colder as the mercury dipped to 22.4 degrees, four below normal.
"The morning temperature may go down further tomorrow and weather conditions will remain the same at least for two more days," the local weather office said. People were seen well wrapped up even during the day as cold winds swept the city. If anything is heating up, it's sale of woollens. Shops run by Tibetan refugees at three places in Bhopal witnessed good crowds. "Sale went up by more than 30% today," said one of the shopkeepers, wrapping up a thick sweater for a customer.
The Met office attributes the "coldwave conditions" to northerly winds and rainfall in some parts of Gwalior and Chambal divisions in the past 48 hours. "Winds coming from northern states after snowfall are making it colder," a weather official said. Cold wave is sweeping across north MP and Bundelkhand. Datia and Khajuraho recorded a minimum temperature of 5 degrees Celsius. School timings in many parts of Bundelkhand have been changed.
The weatherman forecasts rainfall in parts of eastern MP, especially in Jabalpur division and neighbouring Mandla and Dindori. There is no chance of rainfall in Bhopal on Monday, when Kamal Nath will take oath as the 18th chief minister of Madhya Pradesh at Jamboorie maidan.
The approaching storm in Andhra Pradesh may cause some rainfall in Chhattisgarh but not in Madhya Pradesh, said an official.
