Bhopal: Day later, girl denies rape incident

BHOPAL: A day after police registered a case of rape, the 8-year old girl on Thursday denied any rape incident and said she got injured after a fall from her bicycle, leaving the police baffled.
A case of rape was registered On Wednesday after an eight-year old girl, a student of Class III in a private school, told her mother that one of her classmates had raped her. She also had injuries on her private parts.The parents rushed to Govindpura police station where a case was registered after the girl again named one of her classmates as accused.
The girl was admitted at AIIMS Bhopal for treatment and medical check-ups as she had injuries on her private parts. However, on Thursday her father went to the police and told that during the night when he talked to the girl, she told him that she fell down while riding bicycle on Tuesday and got injured. The girl also said that same thing when her statements were recorded before a court.
“The survivor and her family members had said that she got injured while riding a bicycle. They repeated the same when statements were recorded in court. However, the case is being investigated further and from all aspects,” additional SP zone 2, Dinesh Kaushal told TOI.
Sources said that the girl was injured on Tuesday but she did not tell anyone in the family. Later on Wednesday her mother saw the injuries while bathing her, she discussed it with neighbours too, and when she quizzed her the girl, she claimed that she was raped by one of her classmates, probably out of fear.
When police officials asked the girl why did she name one of her classmates, she said that she had heard big people saying such things, said sources.
The police hunt for the accused boy also drew a blank when the address of his house in school records turned out to be old, said sources.
Ultimately, the address of the boy named by the girl was traced in Nehru Nagar when the police team reached there, the family members and kid who is also 8-year old denied any such thing, said sources. It was also not possible for the kid to travel 15 km alone to Govindpura from Nehru Nagar for executing the incident, said sources.
Medical examination reports of the minor girl were also not conclusive and doctors said that no definite opinion could be made about rape after examination of the injuries, said sources.
Seeing the sensitive nature of the case, police are still investigating the case, said sources.
