Four rape cases in 24 hours in Bhopal

BHOPAL: Crime against girls and women continue in the city despite tall claims of the police. Four cases of rape were reported in the city over the past 24 hours.
In the first incident, reported in Ratibad police station, a 22-year-old BCA student was allegedly raped by her relative on the pretext of marriage.
The accused reportedly took her to different religious cities, including Haridwar, Vrindavan and Mathura, and kept outraging her modesty for 20 days.
When the survivor went missing from her house, her family members approached the Ratibad police and lodged a missing person's complaint on May 26.
While the cops were searching for the survivor, on Saturday, the accused left her in Bhopal. She then approached the police and lodged a complaint. Acting on the survivor’s complaint, the police registered a rape case and arrested him.
Investigating Officer SI Sanjeev Dhakad said the survivor is a BCA second year student and resided with family in a village under Ratibad police station. She stated in her complaint that she came in contact with the accused, Balram, a resident of Khajuri locality, two years ago. As the 32-year-old accused is her relative, he visited her home frequently.
SI Sanjeev said, on May 25, the accused somehow won her confidence and took her out of the city. A few days ago, when the survivor started pressuring him to marry her, the accused refused to do so and threatened her with dire consequences.

Following her police complaint, the accused was arrested, he added.
In the second such incident reported in Shahjahanabad police station, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her acquaintance on June 3 on the pretext of marriage. Later, when the accused denied that he would marry her, she approached the police and lodged a complaint.
Police said that the survivor resides with her family in Talaiya locality. She stated in her complaint that she first met the accused a year ago. On June 3, she went to his relative’s house in Shahjehanabad on the occasion of Eid. As the accused was known to her family members, he went to meet her at her relative house, where he outraged her modesty on the pretext of marriage. She approached the police on Saturday and lodged a complaint. The accused is yet to be nabbed.
In the third incident reported at Talaiya police station, a 27-year-old woman was allegedly being raped by a man for seven months on the pretext of marriage. On June 14, she approached Jehangirabad police station and lodged a complaint against the accused. Since the incident took place in Talaiya locality, the Talaiya police received a zero FIR from Jehangirabad police and registered a rape case. The accused is yet to be nabbed.
Investigating Officer SI Lavkush Pandey said the survivor resides with her parents in Jehangirabad. She stated in her complaint that she was married, but got separated a year ago. The accused Amir, a resident of Talaiya locality, was an old acquaintance. He had reportedly assured her that he would marry her after the divorce.
In another incident, a 23-year-old married woman was allegedly raped by her husband’s friend.The incident was reported in Gautam Nagar police station on Friday. Police said woman has been staying away from her husband for the past few months. She was at her parents’ home when the accused, Salman, came there and allegedly raped her on finding her alone. Later, the woman approached police with her family members and registered a case, police added.
