BHOPAL: Amid debate about the recovery rate in state, the doctors at government hospitals have said that the death rate in state-run Covid centres is higher comparatively as they admit critical Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) patients.
SARI is manifested by fever, cough, and shortness of breath or difficulty in breathing. It encompasses pneumonia and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS).
These two conditions are the primary causes of death among Covid-19 patients, say experts.
In the state capital, AIIMS Bhopal and Hamidia hospital have been treating such critical SARI patients. "We were getting severe and critical cases, that is why the fatality was slightly higher," he added. Hamidia hospital has reported about 32 deaths and its death percentage is 6.4. AIIMS Bhopal death ratio is 4.47%.
"Hamidia hospital has treated around 500 SARI patients during the Covid-19 pandemic. When nobody else was admitting SARI or severe Covid-19 patients, only Hamidia hospital and AIIMS Bhopal was providing the treatment," said Gandhi Medical College, associate professor (pulmonologist) and public relations officer, Dr Parag Sharma.
