Man gets RI for selling adulterated ghee
Bhopal/Jabalpur: A court of judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) in Jabalpur on Thursday sentenced a shopkeeper to one year of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and slapped a fine of Rs55,000 for selling packets of adulterated ghee.
According to prosecution story, the accused Mukesh Patel was selling 1kg packet of a brand of ghee at his shop in Jabalpur’s Katangi.
Suspecting the ghee sold to be adulterated, a food safety officer on December 6, 2005, purchased the packet from the shopkeeper. He then sent the sample of ghee to food testing lab in Bhopal which found it to be adulterated.
On basis of evidence produced before the court and the lab report, the court held Patel guilty and sentenced him to one-year RI under provisions of Food Safety Act and also slapped a penalty of Rs55,000 on him.
