MP: Cabinet nod for pension to unmarried women
BHOPAL: With Election Commission’s Model Code of Conduct expected to be imposed early next month, the Shivraj Singh Chouhan cabinet took two major decisions on Monday — monthly pension to unmarried women past the age of 50, and approved a loan of 500 million Euros for construction of metro rail in Bhopal and Indore.
Briefing the media after the Cabinet meeting, minister for water resources and state government spokesman Narottam Mishra said, “The cabinet today approved the Mukhya Mantri Abivahita Pension Yojana (Chief minister’s Unmarried Women Pension Scheme) for unmarried women, who are domiciles of the state.
This is the first time that a state has taken such a step.” Kerala, however, launched a similar scheme in March 2011, and Telengana in May 2017.
According to Mishra, the government will pay a pension of Rs 300 per month to unmarried women between the age of 50 and 79 years, and Rs 500 to those older.
