MP: Panna locality in lockdown as leopard injures 2
BHOPAL: A leopard strayed into a government guesthouse in Panna town, triggering panic among residents. Two people were injured by the big cat and are in hospital.
It has not been captured and local residents have been told to lock themselves in and not step out at night.
The leopard was spotted around 7.30am in the rest house near old bus-stand in Amanganj area. Forest officials said it was hiding behind the bushes and pounced upon two residents, who had entered the guesthouse compound to collect flowers.
Pandemonium ensued.
Guesthouse employees locked themselves in different rooms.
Residents blame it on patrol team
A crowd gathered at the walls to catch a glimpse of the leopard. Someone dialled 100 and a rescue team from Panna Tiger Reserve arrived. They tried tracking its pugmarks, but in vain. Till late on Thursday, it had not been captured. Elephants have been deployed to drive the leopard back into forest.
There was anger among Amanganj residents, who claim that wild animals are venturing out of the protected area because forest employees are not carrying out routine patrols. On Thursday, a tiger had killed a cow on Panna-Satna highway.
