MP: Profs see red over order to upload candidates’ data
BHOPAL: Professors and senior teachers of colleges are unhappy with state’s order directing them to feed data on the candidates selected in the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission examination held recently.
The higher education department issued a circular, a copy of which is with TOI, dated September 22 instructing the faculty to complete the assignment. Duties have been assigned to the faculty members on different shifts beginning from September 26 to October 12.
For this, professors have been asked to attend a training programme at the office of divisional commissioner on Tuesday at 3pm.
“Are we teachers or clerks? Instead of asking us to teach in class, they want us to be data entry operators,” said a professor on the condition of anonymity.
Stating that they feel let down by the directives, the professors said, “The department wants to involve us in such sundry works which has nothing to do with teaching. If the syllabus is not completed in classes, we are questioned. It is difficult to do two things simultaneously,” said another teaching faculty.
Teachers have also objected to logic asking them to do administrative work. “Is there any shortage of babus due to which teachers are asked to do such work which they have not done?,” said another faculty.
Professors and senior faculty members of Benazir College, MLB, MVM, Sarojini Naidu Hamidia College, BHEL College, Govt College, Mandideep, Govt Gitanjali College, Govt College, Hoshangabad and others have been instructed to undertake the data entry work.
Despite repeated efforts to contact, the commissioner higher education Ajith Kumar did not respond.
