Nearly one-third Madhya Pradesh is rain deficient so far

More than one-third of Madhya Pradesh has received less rainfall during monsoon so far. Monsoon rainfall in state is measured from June 1 to September 30. Overall, the state is seven per cent surplus, but situation is not good in east MP, which is short by 13% till Friday.

BHOPAL: More than one-third of Madhya Pradesh has received less rainfall during monsoon so far. Monsoon rainfall in state is measured from June 1 to September 30. Overall, the state is seven per cent surplus, but situation is not good in east MP, which is short by 13% till Friday.
At least 10 out of the total 20 places coming under east MP are rain deficient, with the driest place being Sidhi. Sidhi is 73 per cent short of the total rainfall it should have received till date, followed by Rewa, which is 63 per cent short.
Chhindwara is 46 per cent short, while Singrauli and Panna are both 44 per cent short, Tikamgarh (42 per cent), Balaghat (36 per cent) , Satna (30 per cent), Shahdol (28 per cent) and Dindori is 16 per cent short.
Overall, west MP is surplus by 27 per cent, but there are a few places in the region that have received less than normal rainfall. Hoshangabad has received 35 per cent less than normal rainfall, while the shortfall in Guna is 28 per cent and Vidisha is 19 per cent short of rain till date. At other places in the state, the shortfall is less than 20 per cent which is by and large considered as normal by the Met department.
Among the four main cities — Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior and Jabalpur — the state capital has received less than normal rainfall so far, while the remaining three places are rainfall surplus. Bhopal is rain deficient by 11 per cent, Indore is rainfall surplus by 59 per cent, Gwalior 38 per cent surplus and Jabalpur has received 26 per cent more showers than it should have received till date.
As per the Met department, 990 mm rainfall is considered normal for the state from June 1 to September 30. The state has received 175.2 mm rain so far while the normal rainfall till Friday from June 1 is 163.6 mm, so overall the state is rain surplus by 7 per cent.
Monsoon hit the state in the last week of June. Met officials said that with two more months left for the monsoon, it is expected to be by and large close to normal in the state.

STATE OF RAINFALL
State has received 175.2 mm rain so far, seven per cent more than the normal.
Sidhi, the driest place in MP, has received only 47.2 mm rainfall against normal of 174.9 mm.
Ratlam is most rain surplus district. It has received 416.2 mm rain against normal of 134.2 mm.
Bhopal has received 148.9 mm rain against normal of 166.7 mm, it is 11 per cent less than normal
