BHOPAL: As schools continue to use private publishers’ book amid the lockdown, parents are having a hard time keeping up with online classes without being able to purchase the books prescribed by the schools for the new academic session.
Though NCERT books are just a click away and are available for free on the Internet, private schools are insisting parents to purchase the books recommended by the school from particular bookstores of the city, creating problems for the parents.

“Even during the time of the pandemic, schools are insisting on the purchase of private publishers’ books from the limited book stores that have those books. Some booksellers are charging extra money for home delivery of books, which is not feasible. Parents are facing financial difficulties because of the pandemic but schools aren't ready to NCERT books that can be easily downloaded and saved on the computer,” said secretary of MP parents’ association, Prabodh Pandya.
“Teachers can just clear the concepts and students will easily solve the questions at home from worksheets after completing the chapters with the help of their parents. They can use NCERT books, that are free and recommended by CBSE board," a parent, Mahendra K Gupta said.
Sunita Tiwari, another parent said, “Schools demand students to sit before the phone or laptop in their uniforms and keep on giving out instructions for online classes. Then there is the pressure of buying the books recommended by the school! The schools should focus on teaching the right concepts, be it science or math, and should not pressurise parents to get children to solve questions from one particular book. NCERT has the whole curriculum for all classes and using the NCERT books will solve a lot of problems for parents. ”
