RaGa picks Kamal; dawn of new era, says CM-in-waiting
Kamal Nath has been named the party's choice for chief minister.
BHOPAL: Just before the stroke of midnight on Thursday, the Congress HQ in Bhopal erupted in cheers. Kamal Nath had been named the party's choice for chief minister.
With campaign committee chief Jyotiraditya Scindia - Nath's partner in the tooth and nail fight that uprooted the 15-year-old BJP Sarkar - by his side, the CM-in-waiting said: " Naye itihas ki shuruat ki hai (it's the beginning of a new era).
Madhya Pradesh is in safe hands. I assure everyone in the state that Congress will implement its Vachan Patra (manifesto) in letter and spirit. I thank party workers who toiled courageously to achieve this victory. They took our fight to every alley, every village and every nook and corner of the state ."
About four hours before this, AICC chief Rahul Gandhi had tweeted a photo of his, arms interlinked with Nath and Scindia, captioned with a famous Leo Tolstoy quote: "The two most powerful warriors are patience and time." It was a clear hint. But the official announcement took some time coming. At Indira Bhavan, the state party HQ in Bhopal, hundreds of party workers and journalists waited. Kamal Nath and Jyotiraditya Scindia landed at Raja Bhoj Airport around 10.15pm and drove straight to the party office for the Congress Legislative Party meeting.
