Bhopal: Raped by father-in-law, asked to keep mum by hubby, bride ends life

BHOPAL: A 20-year-old newlywed woman who was allegedly raped by her father-in law in Bajaria locality, committed suicide after her mother-in-law and husband refused to take any action.
When the victim informed her mother-in-law about the incident, she threatened her of dire consequences. Later, when she approached her husband ,he warned her to bear it if she wants to live in the house.
On receiving such response from her mother-in law and husband, the victim returned to her parent’s home in Narsinghpur where she committed suicide.
The Narsinghpur police on basis of statements from deceased’s parents, registered a case on charges of rape against her father-in-law and booked her husband and mother-in-law on charges of abatement to suicide.
A zero FIR was filed at Themi police station in Narsinghpur against the accused, and the case was transferred to Bajaria police station.
According to Bajaria police the deceased woman, 20, a resident of Narsinghpur, got married to a Bajaria-based man in June, this year. Her father-in-law started misbehaving with her soon after the marriage but she chose to be quite.
One day, while she was alone at the house, the accused father-in-law raped her. The victim narrated the incident to her husband and mother-in-law but they did not pay attention, instead scolded her. When the victim informed her mother about the incident over phone, her husband overheard and started torturing her. He broke her mobile phone and assaulted her. The victim returned to her parent’s house where she hanged self last month.
Before taking the extreme step she called her husband but instead he challenged her that she is free to commit suicide. The Narsinghpur police recorded the statements of her parents after her death and registered a case against the accused.
