Swachh Survekshan 2019: Indore cleanest city, Bhopal cleanest capital

Three cities in Madhya Pradesh bagged top awards in Swachh Survekshan 2019 announced by the union government at a function in New Delhi on Wednesday. Indore was awarded as the cleanest city in India, Bhopal cleanest capital and Ujjain cleanest city (3 lakh to one million category).

BHOPAL: Three cities in Madhya Pradesh bagged top awards in Swachh Survekshan 2019 announced by the Union government at a function in New Delhi on Wednesday. Indore was awarded as the cleanest city in India, Bhopal cleanest capital and Ujjain cleanest city (3 lakh to one million category).
Indore has now retained the top spot in the survey of being the cleanest city for a consecutive three years.
Every year, cities and towns across India are awarded with the title of 'Swachh Cities' on the basis of their cleanliness and sanitation drive as a part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan that was launched in 2014. On May 4, 2017, the Centre released a list of cleanest cities. Six-four lakh citizens participated in the survey which included more than 4,000 cities in 2019. Indore has reported a 70% drop in vector-borne ailments in 2019. It is being attributed to Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
Swach Bharat Mission-Urban awards were given by President Ram Nath Kovind. MP urban development minister Jaivardhan Singh received the award along with elected representatives from Indore. It was declared as the cleanest city in India.
It was hat-trick for Bhopal too. The Madhya Pradesh state capital was adjudged the capital cleanest city in the 2019 survey. Bhopal now has been rated as the cleanest capital for three years, in the survey dubbed as the largest of its kind in the world. Bhopal mayor Alok Sharma and Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) commissioner B Vijay Datta received the award.
Ahmedabad was declared the cleanest city in the 10 lakh plus population category.
