BHOPAL: June is turning out to be a nightmare for the people of Bhopal this year as the mercury has broken all the records. The mercury touched the highest point in the month of June in the history on Sunday at 46 degrees Celsius, breaking the record of almost two decade. As per the Met records, the highest ever maximum temperature recorded in Bhopal in the month of June is 45.6 degrees Celsius recorded on June 10, 1979 and June 5, 1995 before this.
Moreover, for the next two days the temperature would increase further.
The day temperature in Bhopal on Sunday was seven degrees above the normal mark. Night temperature in city was recorded at 30.9 degrees, five degrees above the normal mark. Wind direction in city was north westerly and average wind speed was 20 kilometres per hour. The highest temperature in state was recorded in Hoshangabad at 48 degrees in Khajuraho and Naogaon. There was thundery development at a few places. Pachmarhi recorded 5mm rain in the day, Betul 0.4mm and Sagar recorded traces of rain.
Officials of meteorological department, Bhopal circle said, “There is cycer in east Rajasthan and northwest MP and a trough moving through north east MP to Gangetic west. It would lead to thundery development over few parts of MP, but possibility of temperature falling down is low.” A day earlier, the maximum and minimum temperature in Bhopal was respectively recorded at 45.1 degrees Celsius — six degrees more than the normal mark and 31.6 degrees Celsius — five degrees more than the normal mark.
In the forecast for Bhopal weatherman issued warning of heatwave for Monday. There would be a clear sky in the day but evening could be cloudy. Day and night temperature would be at 45 degrees and 31 degrees Celsius respectively while average wind speed will be around 20 kmph. And, in the forecast for state met department issued warning of intense heatwaves at Gwalior, Guna, Tikamgarh, Shajapur, Chhatarpur, Sheopurkalan, Raisen, Rajgarh and Khargone. Warning of heatwaves was issued for places, including Hoshangabad, Jabalpur, Narmada, Shivpuri, Sagar, Damoh, Panna, Vidisha, Sehore, Ratlam, Agar, Ujjain, Ashok Nagar, Morena, Bhind, Satna, Datia and Rewa.
