BHUBANESWAR: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) here on Monday arrested a person from Balasore for his alleged complicity in a 2009 fake railway job fraud, involving Rs 95 lakh. CBI said the accused, Babloo Yadav, alias Trainer, a resident of Saharsha district in Bihar, was on the run since 2009.
The CBI had registered the case against Fuldeo Oram, former station superintendent of Kalchini railway station (West Bengal), and some others for allegedly duping some job seekers of nearly Rs 95 lakh in 2009.
The accused persons had printed fake railway appointment letters and given to a number of aspiring candidates after collecting hefty amounts from them. Some of the victims were reportedly from Odisha.
The CBI subsequently identified three accomplices of Oram, who was the prime accused. CBI named Oram’s three associates as Subhash Chandra Roul, Sameer Kumar and Babloo Yadav. CBI said except Yadav, other three accused persons were either arrested or surrendered in court. Roul belonged to Odisha.
“We were since looking for Yadav. Based on a tip-off that he was travelling somewhere via Balasore, we raided the railway station and arrested him. He was already named in the chargesheet,” a senior CBI officer told TOI. After investigation, the probe agency had filed a preliminary chargesheet in the court of special chief judicial magistrate (CBI) on December 30, 2010 and subsequently filed a supplementary chargesheet in the court on June 30, 2011.
Significantly, similar bogus railway job scams surfaced in Bhubaneswar in 2016. Alarmed by arrest of some fraudsters, including a few railway employees for cheating youths with the promise of giving them employment in the railways, the east coast railway (ECoR) had in September 2016 recommended CBI probe into the fake recruitment scams. However, the CBI has not yet taken any decision whether or not to probe those cases, sources said.
