Byelection to the post of president, Ganjam zilla parishad (ZP), will be held on July 2. A notification in this regard was issued by the district election officer on Monday with the direction of the state election commission.

BERHAMPUR: Byelection to the post of president, Ganjam zilla parishad (ZP), will be held on July 2. A notification in this regard was issued by the district election officer on Monday with the direction of the state election commission.
The vacancy occurred following the resignation of its president Subash Behera. He resigned from the post as he was elected to the assembly from Chhatrapur constituency in the recent elections.

After his resignation, ZP's vice-president Snehalata Panda has remained in-charge president.
According to the schedule, the issue of the nomination forms and submission of the document will be held from 10am to 11am of the same day.
Scrutiny of papers will be made from 11am to 11.30am. Withdrawal of the candidature would be made before 12 noon. Voting, if necessary, will be held from 12.30pm to 2pm.
Counting and declaration of the result will be held immediately after the voting, according to the notification.
Byelection to the post of president of the zilla parishad, Koraput, which is vacant, will also be held along with the election to the post of
Ganjam ZP president, official sources said.
With issue of the notification for the byelection to the Ganjam ZP president post, several aspirants of the ruling party in Ganjam district have started lobbying for the post.
Ruling party will not face any problem to get the new president elected as the BJD has absolute majority in the 69-member parishad. The BJD has 64 out of 69 members followed by BJP (4) and Congress (1). The ZP president post is un-reserved.
The selection of the nominee for ZP president will be held after discussion with senior leaders of the party in the district, including newly-elected MLAs and MPs. Party supremo and chief minister Naveen Patnaik will make the final call, said a senior BJD leader.
