BHUBANESWAR: The delay in the movement of local passenger trains in the Berhampur-Bhadrak and Cuttack-Paradeep sections has upset the daily commuters. Three trains, the Bhadrak-Cuttack passenger, Cuttack-Paradip passenger and Palasa-Bhubaneswar passenger allegedly run late on most days.
Some passengers lodged a complaint with the railways at the Cuttack station about the Bhadrak-Cuttack (train no.
58435) and Cuttack-Paradip (train no. 58401) running late, urging the East Coast Railways (ECoR) to hasten their movement. The Bhadrak-Cuttack passenger was late by an hour on Wednesday.
Nrusingha Rout, a daily commuter, said the train reaches Cuttack late on most days. "After it arrives at Cuttack station, it runs as Cuttack-Paradip passenger. I am a monthly season ticket (MST) holder and use the passenger train to go home every day. But everyday it gets delayed by one to two hours," he added.
The 58420 Palasa-Bhubaneswar passenger runs late too. "This train gets less number of passengers compared to other two local passenger trains that run on the route. It is stopped midway by the railways at any station to make way for other express or supefast trains. And it finally reaches its destination late by around one and a half hour," said Rama Nahak, a passenger from Ganjam.
The division will review the punctuality of these trains and try to run those without delay, said divisional railway manager (Khurda Road) Braj Mohan Agarwal. He said they have introduced mainline electric multiple unit (MEMU) trains on the Berhampur-Cuttack and Angul-Puri routes. "These trains will replace the conventional trains and maintain punctuality," he added.
