BHUBANESWAR: The state government's announcement that all schools and colleges will be shut till July 31 has upset the undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) examination schedule.
Recently, the government announced that examinations for sixth semester of UG or Plus III final year will be held between June 20 and July 24. Result of these examinations will be declared by August 31.
Similarly, final year PG examinations will be completed by August 20 and it's results will be announced by September 20.
Retired principal of DR College, Nayapalli, Rajani Ranjan Das, said the government has decided to complete the UG final semester examinations by July 24 but now it may not happen as colleges will not be opened by July 31. "It may also affect the PG examination schedule," he added.
Earlier, the government decided to open all educational institutions on June 17. "But on Monday it was extended to July 31. Both students and teachers are confused about their examinations and admission process," he added.
Vice-chairman of Odisha State Higher Education Council (OSHEC) Asoka Kumar Das said the state government will take a decision on this matter. "I cannot comment on this before discussing with the government about the examinations and related issues," he added.
On May 26, the higher education department decided not to hold the intermediate second and fourth semester examinations for the UG students and second semester examinations for the PG students for the 2019-20 academic session. The universities and colleges will decide on the alternative methods to evaluate the performances of students according to the examination regulations and promote the students to the next semesters.
This year, the Common PG entrance test will be held for the first time in the state. After qualifying this test, students will get a seat in any of the state universities according to their eligibility and performance in the entrance.
Currently, a student has to submit application forms separately for each university and appear for multiple entrance examinations on different dates.
