BHUBANESWAR: Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Thursday informed the house that she has accepted the resignation of former Kendrapada MP Baijayant Panda on July 18.
After quitting BJD on May 28, the former Kendrapada MP had sent his resignation letter to the Lok Sabha speaker on June 12. Baijayant on Tuesday met Mahajan (for the second time after July 5) and requested her to accept his resignation, which he has already tweeted.
Earlier, BJD parliamentary party leader Bhartruhari Mahtab, in a letter to Mahajan, had requested to accept Baijayant’s resignation.
The high-profile MP was also suspended from the primary membership of the BJD for alleged anti-party activities on January 24.
Baijayant, who is in Tokyo for a conference, took to twitter to recall his memories as a parliament.

“Didn't disrupt/enter well of the house even once. Spoke & asked questions on issues of Odisha (for which i was electd) but also on many nat'l & int'l topics -Championed many ideas via Pvt Members Bills, incl Privacy/Data Protection & Transgender rights,” he tweeted.
The former MP is, however, yet to reveal his next course of action.
With Baijayant’s resignation, BJD’s strength in the Lok Sabha has been reduced to 19.
