BHUBANESWAR: A fresh low pressure area was formed over the Bay of Bengal on Thursday triggering chances of rainfall at most places in the state in the next three days from Friday, according to a latest forecast from IMD.
This system will bring more rainfall to coastal pockets initially and later cover other parts of the state, said director of regional IMD centre H R Biswas.
He did not rule out chances of the system intensifying further. For Friday, the forecast said rain will occur at most places with chances of heavy rainfall in some coastal districts.
Biswas said the low pressure formed last week also brought good rainfall. The state's monsoon rain deficit improved to 7% after the showers on Thursday. Official sources said monsoon rain deficit in the state reduced significantly to 7% compared to 24% deficit on July 13, the day the low pressure was formed.
A senior meteorologist said rainfall deficit stood at 20% and above only in eight out of the 30 districts. Of them, Nabarangpur saw the highest 41% rainfall deficit. The other major deficit districts include Balangir, Angul, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Sonepur and Sundargarh.
