BHUBANESWAR: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday inaugurated the new state-of-the-art Krushi Bhawan that has been constructed with some unique features.
Built over an area of 1.3 lakh square feet, the multi-story building has been constructed by taking inspiration from ikat patterns of Odisha handlooms. The bricks used are made from different colors of clay that symbolize the diversity of soils in different regions of the state.
The ground floor of the building comprises a learning center, auditorium, training rooms, garden, public plaza, crop calendar, open theatre and exhibition hall while the agriculture department and two directorates will function from the remaining three floors.
The rooftop too has also been opened for the public as a demonstration of urban farming
The building is built with an investment of Rs 70 crore including Rs 17 crore prize money received through Centre’s Krishi Karman Award for four years.
The building is designed in such a way that it is naturally cooled and reduces the energy consumption as air-conditioners are installed in only 20 per cent of the areas.
“Krushi Bhawan illustrates how a government facility can extend itself to celebrate local context, craftsmanship, and sustainability and become a vital part of the social infrastructure,” said an official.
Inaugurating the building, Naveen said every brick of the building speaks success of our farmers as it has been constructed from the prize money for record food grain productions.

“The farmers can avail all facilities under one roof at Krushi Bhawan, Hard work of our farmers has brought laurels for our state. Odisha provides food grains to the entire country. Odisha is the third largest contributor to the public distribution system of our country,” said Naveen.
There is a demonstration garden that highlights the use of irrigation channels, rainwater harvesting, soil remediation, and organic agricultural practices to improve crop yields. All the wastewater generated will be recycled and reused.
Around 400 farmers from different parts of the state were present during the inauguration of the new Krushi Bhawan.
