New role for several BJD leaders in Odisha government departments
BHUBANESWAR: The state government on Friday published a list of 34 BJD leaders and two others, who have been posted as adviser or heads of various state government departments, PSUs and statutory bodies. The BJD leaders, who could not get a ticket to fight the recent elections were rehabilitated by the state government. But no ruling party leader, who had unsuccessfully contested the election, was given any position.
The list of appointments indicated that the state government has created several new positions to rehabilitate the party leaders.
Hockey legend and former Rajya Sabha member Dilip Tirkey has been appointed as chairperson of the Odisha Hockey Promotion Council, a new organisation. The state government has appointed many leaders as advisers of several state government departments.
While former MLA Anubhav Patnaik has been appointed as adviser to the electronics and information technology department, senior leader Krutibas Patra is adviser of the agriculture and farmers empowerment department. Others who were made advisers are former legislator Utkal Keshari Parida, (Chilika Development Authority), Debasis Mallick (Odisha Forest Development Corporation), Sulata Deo (Women and Child Development department), Janmejay Lenka (Odia language literature and culture department), former deputy speaker Ramachandra Panda (Odisha State Agriculture Marketing Board) and Munna Khan (SC/ST Development department) were .
There is no clarity on whether the advisers would get privileges like rank, office, support staff, government accommodation, personal security and salary.
Senior BJD leader Minati Behera has been appointed chairperson of the State Commission for Women while veteran leader Kasturi Mohapatra would head the State Social Welfare Board. Similarly, Sulochana Das would head the State Commission for Persons with Disabilities while Lopamudra Buxipatra is advisor of the Mission Shakti initiative.
Development professional Sujeet Kumar, who had served as officer on special duty in the State Planning Board has been made adviser of special development councils. Susmita Bagchi, wife of Subrato Bagchi, chairperson of Odisha Skill Development Authority will head Mo School initiative.
