Odisha: Now, BJD’s Nilagiri MLA quits party
BHUBANESWAR: After BJD’s Nabarangpur MP Balabhadra Majhi, ruling party MLA from Nilagiri Sukanta Nayak quit the organization citing “conspiracy” by some leaders against him.
The one-time legislator had objected to the recent induction of former BJP leader Sushama Biswal into BJD. She had unsuccessfully fought the 2014 assembly election from Nilagiri against Nayak.
“To add insult to injury, the mental torture inflicted upon me by the district BJD president (Balasore MP Rabindra Jena) was becoming unbearable with every passing day.
This hurt me immensely. So I am tendering my resignation from the primary membership of the party,” the MLA stated in his resignation letter to party president Naveen Patnaik.
After sending his resignation letter, the Nilagiri legislator also addressed party workers in his constituency. “Though I tried my level best to serve the people in my constituency and strengthen the party, I was neglected by the leaders in my district. Leaders from other parties were included into BJD without my knowledge,” he said.
Asked about his next move, Nayak said he will continue to serve people in his constituency but did not reveal whether he will join any other party.
“My good wishes are with the Nilagiri legislator. I have nothing to say,” Jena said. He added that Nayak’s decision to leave the party will not have any impact on the organisation in Nilagiri.
