Chandigarh: Times Women Drive North Chapter’s prize distribution took place in Chandigarh on Saturday.
Around 250 women drove from New Delhi to Chandigarh in 97 cars.
This initiative by The Times of India was launched in 2009. It is considered as the World’s largest all women car rally in the time, speed and distance (TSD) format. The event, organised in association with Tata Memorial, aims at spreading awareness on breast cancer.
The rally broke the cliché that women can’t drive. The first prize was won by Dr Mala Kapoor and Pratibha Anand. They were also awarded with Rs 1.50 lakh. The 1st runners-up were Swapna, Neena and Pooja, who were given the prize money of Rs1 lakh. While the 2nd runners-up were Deepali, Sangeeta, Nupur, who won RS 75,000 as the prize money.
Over 300 women set off from the Dhyan Chand stadium in New Delhi on Saturday morning to drive through the 250 km to Chandigarh and become the TDS queen of the North India.
The FMSCI-approved Times Women’s Drive was sponsored by J K Tyre. It was flagged off by Sita Raina, chairperson of the FMSCI women’s cell, Sneha Sharma and officials from the Times group and the J K Tyre group. Around 250 women lined up enthusiastically early morning with deckled up SUVs and sedans in elaborate themes, with the Tricolour.
“We are delighted to receive such a huge response from women across the country. This motivates us to encourage women,” said Sanjay Sharma, head of J K Tyre. The car rally was held in compliance with the 2018 International Sporting Code of the FIA and follows the time-speed-distance (TSD) non-cumulative format. The rally is stated to be the world’s biggest all women car rally.
