Three booked after check on travel agents, IELTS centres in Jalandhar

Jalandhar police and district administration checked 25 offices of travel agents and immigration consultants operating around the city bus stand on Saturday and registered cases against three who were operating illegally.

JALANDHAR: Jalandhar police and district administration checked 25 offices of travel agents and immigration consultants operating around the city bus stand on Saturday and registered cases against three who were operating illegally.
Commissioner of police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said they had received a tip-off that a number of illegal travel agents were operating around the bus stand and were duping people.
He said these agents had opened shops in the name of IELTS training institutes, ticketing agencies and education consultancy services.
On Saturday, joint teams of the police and district administration were formed to check these offices. “As all travel agents and immigration consultants have to registered with the state government, our focus was to find those who were operating without registration,” Bhullar said.
Bhullar said owners of the three agents were booked under 406, 420 and 120 B of the Indian Penal Code, Section 12 of Passport Act and Section 13 of Punjab Travel Professional Regulation Act. The accused are Mohit Minhas, resident of Gian Nagar, who was running Next Level IELTS Institute, Satinderpal Singh, a resident of Doordarshan Enclave who was running IELTS Guru Institute, and Ravinder Kumar, a resident of Mujjafarpur village who was running an IELTS institute by the name of Bands Solution. Bhullar said all three were arrested.
Two mobile phones and Rs 54,000 cash were seized from Mohit, whereas one mobile phone and Rs 1.28 lakh were taken from Satinderpal Singh.
