PANCHKULA: Three people lost their lives and nine, including three children, were seriously injured after their SUV collided head on with a truck near Nanakpur village in Pinjore early on Thursday. Of the 12 SUV occupants, 11 were of a family.

SomnathThe truck driver has been booked on a complaint given by Pradeep Singh, 23, a resident of Ramgarh village, Patiala.
A private vehicle driver, Pradeep told the police that like every year, he along with his family members Jagwinder Singh, Vishkender Singh, Somnath and Dishant Sharma, all residents of Patiala, went to Renukaji in Himachal Pradesh on June 11. At Renukaji, they all stayed at the house of Amit Kumar, Vishkender’s uncle. When they were on way back home, Amit made a plan to go to Manikaran Sahib to offer prayers. The five along with Amit, his wife Rimpy, kids — Anchan, 8, and Raghav, 11 — brother-in-law’s son Ayushman, 3, and worker Ravi started the journey in Amit’s SUV (HP-71-TEMP-2019/130).
AyushmanPradeep was driving the SUV. When they reached near Nanakpur village turn at 4.45am, a speeding truck coming from the other side collided with their SUV. The impact was so strong that the SUV turned turtle and all 12 passengers were badly injured. An ambulance was called, but Dishant, Ravi and Somnath died on the spot. While Pradeep and others were admitted to civil hospital in Sector 6, Amit and his son Raghav were referred to PGIMER, Chandigarh.
Even as the truck driver fled the spot, his vehicle (HP-12C-232) was impounded. A case under sections 279 (rash driving on public way), 304-A (death caused due to negligence) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the IPC has been registered. ASI Balbir Singh, in charge of Maddawala police post, said, “The truck driver will be arrested soon. Bodies of the victims will be sent to their hometown after the post-mortem.”
