CHANDIGARH: Police have booked five trainees of Chandigarh Academy of Rural Tennis (CHART) for allegedly sexually harassing and stalking a girl player at the Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Academy (CLTA), Sector 10, on the complaint of her father.
All the five accused are in the 15-17 age group.
On the other hand, police have booked the father of the girl for allegedly thrashing one of the accused last month.

In his complaint to Sector 3 police station, the father of the girl alleged the five have been sexually harassing and stalking his 15-year-old daughter for three months at the CLTA.
He said his daughter joined CLTA in March and since then the five boys had been passing lewd remarks, when she used to practise tennis at the academy, at her. All the five are from Punjab and Haryana.
The father alleged the girl tried to stay away from them but they continued to harass her. He alleged three of them allegedly touched her inappropriately and passed lewd remarks on May 8.
He had submitted a complaint against the three to the CLTA, which rusticated one of them and suspended the other two boys for 15 days from the academy. However, the complainant alleged the authorities were initially not ready to take action. The father alleged the authorities also threatened to ruin the tennis career of his daughter.

The father alleged after the rustication and suspension of three boys, the other two boys and their friends continued stalking her and kept passing obscene remarks. He lodged a complaint against the two boys to the CLA authorities but no action was taken, he alleged. One day, both boys allegedly tried to outrage her modesty in the academy and he then decided to approach the police.
Police registered a case under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354 A (making sexually coloured remarks) and 354 D (stalking), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of IPC.
However, Sector 3 police said one of the boys had alleged he was thrashed and threatened by the complainant last month. On his statement, sector 3 police have registered a case against the father of girl under sections 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the IPC.
