YPS chowk gets a new name
MOHALI: The Mohali administration on Saturday renamed YPS chowk after Lt Colonel Bikramjeet Singh who had died in a terror attack in Jammu on September 26, 2013. YPS chowk will now be known as 'Shaeed Bikramjeet Singh Chowk'.
Lt Col Bikramjeet Singh had died when terrorists attacked the 16 Cavalry unit at Samba in Jammu. The gun shots, fired from close range, proved fatal for the officer, who was the second-in-command of the unit.
Director of defence services, Punjab, Jaitnder Singh, said, persons like Bikramjeet are the sons of the Indian soil and we salute them for serving this nation.

His father Retired Major P J Singh, mother Lovepreet Kaur, Bikramjeet's wife and two daughters were also present at the occasion. The administration has hung a picture of the martyr on the roundabout and engraved his name on it.
P J Singh suggested naming the roundabouts in Chandigarh after the name of the martyrs and war heroes who dedicated their life for this country. He said, "I am proud of my son that he died in the battle field with a bullet in his chest and not in his back. He was not only my son but the son of this nation."
Mankeerat Singh, a resident of Mohali said, "Government has dedicated the chowk to the martyr and it will remind everyone that our soil produced a great warrior."
In 2013, the Punjab government had promised the family that a roundabout would be named after Bikramjeet Singh.
