Chandigarh: After rain, mercury falls to 38.4 degrees Celsius

The dust storm followed by thunder showers led to a drop in day and night temperatures. City observatory recorded 11.3mm rainfall while airport observatory recorded 11.2mm rainfall.

CHANDIGARH: The dust storm followed by thunder showers led to a drop in day and night temperatures. City observatory recorded 11.3mm rainfall while airport observatory recorded 11.2mm rainfall. As per the met department more dust storms and thunder showers are predicted later this week. The wind speed recorded in Tricity was 98kmph which led to havoc in city with many trees uprooted , and damage of property reported .
The temperatures have been quite high for the past few days.
The rain has brought relief to people from the scorching sun. This beginning of June this year has been hot in comparison to that of previous months. On Tuesday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 38.4°C which was one degree below normal. The minimum temperature dropped by a few notches and was recorded at 21.8°C, which was three degrees below normal. On Monday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 39°C which was one degree below normal. The minimum temperature was recorded at 31.4°C, which was six degrees above normal.
“The wind recorded was above 90 kmph. The cyclonic circulation resulted in rain and dust storm and thunder showers,” said a senior official from Chandigarh met department. The thunderstorm was accompanied by lightening at isolated places of Chandigarh. Rain and thunderstorm have been forecast for Haryana and Punjab in the next 72 hours. The official pointed out that it was expected to remain cloudy in the next few days. The weather is expected to be dry thereafter. Weathermen have however forecast partly cloudy sky with thunderstorm on Wednesday, though the maximum temperature is expected to be around 39 degrees and minimum is expected to be around 24 degrees.
