CHANDIGARH: Rain and bad light hampered Chandigarh's spirit with only 49 overs of play possible on the second day of the Col CK Nayadu trophy match against Arunachal Pradesh at the Mahajan Cricket Ground, IT Park here on Thursday.
The home side surprised everyone by declaring their innings at their overnight score of 388 for 4, with Taranpreet Singh remaining unbeaten one short of a brilliant double ton and Bhagmender Lather on 126 not out.

The decision meant Chandigarh wanted their bowlers to take advantage of the overcast conditions and use the moisture from the overnight drizzle to trouble the Arunachal Pradesh batters. The home side's decision bore fruit with Jagjit Singh Sandhu drawing first blood by packing opener Likha Sonia for a duck in the second delivery of the innings.
Nippu Pandita then clean bowled Techi Sonam for a duck in the very next over. Sandhu again removed Licha Jhon for a duck and reduced the side to 3 for 3 by the third over. Mohd Bilal and Netaji Teron then came to the visitors' rescue with a valuable 84-run partnership for the fourth wicket before captain Amrit Lubana dismissed Teron (34) in the 30th over. Lubana jolted the visitors once more by consuming the well settled Mohd Bilal for 58.
Sarvesh Kalra contributed 17 runs before being dismissed by Harshit Singh. Captain Nabam Josh remained unbeaten on 12 with the tourists crawling to 130 for six when bad light intervened to close the day's play.
Jagjit Singh Sandhu (2/49) was most successful bowler for the home side while Amrit Lubana (1/3), Nippun Pandita (1/10) and Bhagmender Lather (1/20) clinched one wicket each.
