Chandigarh: Roads dimpled again, cheap make-up wasn’t waterproof

Chandigarh: Roads dimpled again, cheap make-up wasn’t waterproof
A big pothole near the Citco petrol pump in Sector 38
CHANDIGARH: A year of no recarpeting during money crisis in the civic body has made the city’s potholes wider and riskier in the past few days of rain.
Hitting these water-camouflaged potholes can leave the vehicles with severe damage. Besides, the cars and schooter also get struck in open manholes and drains. Since the rainy season has extended and Chandigarh is getting heavy showers for the past three days, the worn-out roads have cracked wider because of the rushing water.
The top layer is off completely and water has logged in the cavities. It’s tough dodging these holes.
All the patchwork that the municipal corporation had started recently at some of the roughest roads has eroded in the heavy showers. The temporary arrangements couldn’t stand the weather. Anyway, if rain had not broken it, heavy traffic would have.
Not only the main routes but also the slip roads and internal streets need maintenance. The matter came up for discussion times in the MC house as well.
