Footage from CCTV cameras installed outside the shop-cum-office on the second floor showed three persons in an auto-rickshaw reached the market and parked their vehicle around 100 metres away.
Two accused stepped out and broke the shutter of the SCO. One of the accused was wearing a helmet, while the other had covered himself with a blanket, the footage revealed. The accused filled a carry bag with jewellery and fled in the auto-rickshaw.
Pintu Medda, a resident of Rajpura, Punjab, said he and one Rupak Mallic had been running the establishment that used to sell items to leading jewellers. He came to the premises at 10.35 am to find the shutter open and locks broken. At the second floor, the doors were open and his shop ransacked. He said the safe was broken and gold and diamond jewellery missing. Police said a list of stolen items was being prepared by the owners. Police have interrogated 10 employees of the shop. Sources said police rounded up two suspects in the case. Police registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC and are analysing the footage.
