*A PIL has been filed in Punjab and Haryana high court seeking to quash the education department order of May 18 which seeks to direct school students and their parents to pay fee by May 31, which falls within the lockdown period, as demanded by private unaided schools.

*A comprehensive E Survey conducted by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Dev Samaj College of Education (DSCE), Sector 36 revealed that 90.2% teachers in Chandigarh and Punjab are taking online classes for the first time. The research based survey was done to study the challenges faced by teachers during online teaching amid Covid-19. The study took into account a sample size of 3,550 teachers from government, recognized private and government aided private schools of Chandigarh and Punjab. The sample size consisted of 38.6% primary teachers (PTs), 33.9% trained graduate teachers (TGTs) and 27.5% post graduate teachers (PGTs).
*The Haryana government has defined six parameters for categorisation of districts into red zone on the basis of nature of Covid-19 outbreak in those areas — more than 200 active cases, over 15 cases of Covid-19 per one lakh population, less than 14 days of doubling cases, fatality rate higher than 6%, number of tests less than 65 per one lakh population and more than 6% sample positive rate in the district.
*Even as guidelines on discharge of asymptomatic Covid-19 positive patients have been revised in Punjab based on the Union health ministry’s decision, there is also a shift in strategy on testing contacts of the Covid-19 positive cases.
*The UT police have arrested six persons for roaming around on the roads without masks and defying the 7pm curfew deadline without valid reason.
