Cracked Mohali medians open path to accidents

Mohali: Either life has become cheap in this town or the gaps in the medians become a thoroughfare. The civic body has still plugged a breach opposite Nature Park, while police haven’t even noticed any.
One gap is closed but many remain open on the education board, jail, and airport roads. Joint municipal commissioner Avneet Kaur said: “We have sought a list of these illegal gaps that we must plug.” The most dangerous cut is in the divider near an s-bend near a controversial gurdwara on the airport road.
The drivers who use it appear all of a sudden on the town’s busiest fast lane, creating chances for a side-on or head-on collision.
Police claim they have sent the MC and Gmada many written requests to close the gaps. The cops might argue that the 200-foot-wide airport road is in Gmada’s jurisdiction but can’t escape the fact that even they overlook the violators. They even don’t have any data of the traffic tickets issued to the offenders. Mohali senior superintendent of police (SSP) Kuldeep Singh Chahal said: “I will ask the SP (traffic) to act against the violators. We will send Gmada and the MC another reminder.”
The airport road has not one but many cuts in the dividers. The big ones are opposite Aero City, opposite Sector 82, between Sectors 67 and 79, and near the Balongi T-point. These are only a few of the dangerous spots in the city that seem to have stopped caring for traffic rules and road safety.
