CHANDIGARH: Haryana's most hotly contested seat Uchana in Jind district may witness clash of titans again in the upcoming assembly polls as former Hisar MP Dushyant Chautala is likely to contest from Uchana.
Considered hot seat of the state, the Uchana assembly constituency is presently represented by former Union minister Birender Singh's wife Prem Lata Singh of the BJP.
In the 2014 assembly polls, Dushyant was defeated by Prem Lata by a margin of 7,480 votes. Sources in Dushyant's Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) told TOI that the party may announce Dushyant's name in the first list of candidates due to be announced any time.
The sources said there was talk that Dushyant might contest from Narnaund constituency in Hisar, Badhra constituency in Bhiwani district and Uchana constituency in Jind district. However, after deliberations in the JJP, it was suggested that Dushyant should contest from Uchana. The decision of the JJP to field Dushyant from Uchana may come as a huge relief for Haryana finance minister, Captain Abhimanyu who is the sitting MLA from Narnaund constituency that comes under the Hisar Lok Sabha seat. The BJP's Lok Sabha candidate Brijendra Singh had trailed Dushyant by around 3,000 votes in this assembly segment in the recently-concluded parliamentary polls. After the BJP's dismal performance in Narnaund during the Lok Sabha elections, Captain Abhimanyu has been focusing on Narnaund constituency to ensure his victory in the upcoming assembly polls.
The Uchana constituency is not new for the Chautala family, as Dushyant's grandfather O P Chautala had represented Uchana in 2009. In 2014 state assembly polls, despite being sitting MP from Hisar, Dushyant had lost Uchana segment.
In 2014 Lok Sabha polls, the Uchana constituency, which comes under Hisar parliamentary seat, had helped Dushyant win the segment by a lead of 51,000, which had helped him in take Lok Sabha seat.
However, is Uchana is traditional seat of former Union minister and Rajya Sabha MP Birender Singh, who is considered a tall leader of the area.
Dushyant was recently defeated by Birender Singh's son Brijendra in the parliamentary elections from Hisar seat.
